Challenge. Distance. Discovery.
Winner of some of the world’s most difficult and challenging
ultra-distance foot races, Ray Zahab is motivated by challenge,
distance and discovery. Starting his athletic career as a professional
equestrian competitor, it was not until the late nineties that
Ray competed in his first adventure race, started rock and ice
climbing, and left a pack-a-day smoking habit behind him. That
began something new for Ray and this dramatic awakening from
a lifestyle of unhealthy choices uncovered a deep passion for
progressive challenge.
From bike racing to running, ultra-marathoning took Ray from the cold north of Canada to the Amazon jungle. But it was the Sahara desert that ultimately captured Ray’s heart. After racing across Niger, Egypt and Libya the idea was born to cross the entire Sahara out of a love for the terrain and it’s people.
Ray received the ONEXONE Difference Award in September 2007 for his amazing efforts to raise awareness of the water crisis in Africa through the film, Running the Sahara. Ray is the official ONEXONE Athletic Ambassador.
